Funny Things About Harry Potter Only Huge Potterheads Can Figure Out
Would it be rude to say that I prefer the Percy Jackson books over Harry Potter in a way? Like don't get me wrong, I love both a ton, but I did read PJO first so I assume that has something to do with my reasoning there. Nostalgia is a strong force!
Both have given me a ton of great memories but it's hard to believe that the main series of books have been over for so many years now. At least we have a huge number of books to constantly go back to and read and not to mention the Fantastic Beasts movies. Hm, a series of movies or even books showcasing the time after the Dark Lord's second defeat would be cool. It could be an in-depth look of how Harry, Ron, and Hermione reformed the Ministry of Magic and the like afterward. Or how Voldemort returned for the third time as ghooooost! ...Probably not. But you know you'd pay to see that.
While Luna is my favorite character, I really do like Harry as a close second. I mean, you're kinda setting yourself up for a rough time if you don't like the main protagonist. We go through seven whole years of the man's life and it's interesting to read at how he and Ron and Hermione change over time leading up to the Battle of Hogwarts. Here are all of the things that most people tend to miss about Harry, our main character.
25 From Green To Blue
As the story goes, Daniel Radcliffe couldn't wear green contact lenses because he would have a terrible allergic reaction to them, so they just went with his blue eyes.
Which I'm all for, of course! Us blue-eyes have to stick together!
But now that I think about it, I wonder if Avada Kedavra and Harry/Lily's eye color was intentional, or some odd coincidence? I can see it both ways really. With the way Rowling writes, nothing and everything could be a coincidence.

24 Great Hall, Great Reactions
Well, there's definitely a reason why it's called the "great" hall, I'm sure. Daniel, Rupert, and Emma didn't see the hall before filming began, so their reactions to the Great Hall were genuine.
It must be hard filming like that, actually. I know it's a good way to get genuine reactions, but imagine if something goes wrong and the whole shot is ruined for everyone. Then again, I am sure that it's to be expected with such a large production like Harry Potter.
23 JKR, Harry's Mother?!
Yep! JK Rowling was going to be Lily Potter, but she turned the offer down. While I do love Rowling I can't see her filling in Lily's role, to be honest. Like, Geraldine Somerville is just perfect as her.
Then again, Rowling with red hair would be quite something...
Or heck, wouldn't a blonde Lily Potter just look bizarre? Thank goodness Harry looks more like James, or else we could've had a red or blonde haired Harry on our hands...
...I know the books came first, but shush.
22 No-Spell Potter
Man, Harry can't catch a break, can he? Poor dude is "chosen" by Voldemort as Chosen One, and then makes him the Boy Who Lived while he's at it.
Now, in the Sorcerer's Stone movie, he doesn't even cast one spell!
Now, I can see why something like that could happen. Since it's the first movie and all one would have to expect quite a bit of time would be spent setting the world up and Harry actually learning some spells first.
21 No-Dance Potter
Gosh, even though it was filming for a movie I would be mortified to dance in front of so many people. Daniel's look in the picture above must've been genuine! He's a stronger man than I for accomplishing such a feat.
Of course, he did get that paycheck at the end while I got heaps of embarrassment...
But yeah, Dan only got four days of dance practice while everyone else got three weeks because of a worse filming schedule. Yikes!
20 Those Darn Possessed Eyes
I think it's safe to assume that Voldemort's favorite color is green despite some terribly red eyes. As expected, Daniel's eyes had to be changed with the power of computers to be the unnervingly bright green in Order of the Phoenix.
Man, the scene itself was crazy to watch in theaters back then. All of it was just superbly acted. It's why I loveHarry Potterhonestly. Both the books and the movies are amazing enough to stand on their own right.
19 Seven Times An Actor
Yikes, just from the look of the picture alone I can already tell that it must've been a pain to film a scene like that. Radcliffe said it took a hefty number of shots just to make this scene alone.
I'm sure half the trouble just went to him changing in and out of wardrobe. Having to act in all those different articles of clothing must've been a doozy for sure. Although he does wear Fleur's outfit quite dashingly.
18 The Prop Glasses
Being the Boy Who Lived has its troubles, eh? While good ol' Harry in-universe can use the Reparo spell whenever he breaks something us unlucky Muggles in the real world have to replace it or hopefully put it back together again.
Dan apparently went through over 150 pairs of fake glasses through filming all of the movies!
That certainly makes me feel better about the way I've been treating mine... Then again, I don't go face-to-face with Avada Kedavra for seven consecutive years of my life.
While their birthdays are nine months off from now, JKR and Harry were born on July 31st! Both during the heat of summer! It is cute to see a creator try to put pieces of themselves in their work. Small details like a birthday really make the piece feel alive.
I know I can agree on Rowling and Dumbledore's shared enjoy of sherbert lemons! Ugh, the talk of birthdays and that delicious cake pic above is just making my mouth water.
16 Harry's "Passing" Was Planned
Oh, this is for sure one of my favorite scenes throughout the whole series. Hagrid carrying a still-breathing Harry in front of Voldemort him and narrowly escaping the end was just so awesome to read and watch. Not to mention the King's Cross scene that happened with Dumbledore as well.
According to Rowling, Hagrid was never in any danger thanks to this moment.
She envisioned this to happen since the beginning so it would only be natural for Hagrid to stay safe throughout all seven books for it to happen.
15 Lots And Lots Of Words...
I wonder how long it took Rowling to write one of the books from beginning to end. Or heck, how long just planning a book out must've taken her.
I doubt planning for theHalf-Blood PrinceorOrder of the Phoenixwas done in a night. It would be interesting to see if more authors could do something like this and show off their thought process for a specific book after it's been released. She might've had ideas forDeathly Hallowsback when she was writingSorcerer's Stone!
14 The Scar Tells A Story
Like with Dan's fake glasses, he needed to attach Harry's iconic lightning bolt-shaped scar many, many times!
Unlike the 250 or so glasses, the scar had to be put on over 2000 times!
At the very least the scar was attached to his forehead like a glue so it wouldn't be a pain every single time. I wonder why it had to be attatched so many times though. Maybe a new one would be needed after a long enough time had passed?
13 "Harry And Hermione Could Have Worked"
Booo! Harry and Luna are obviously even better than these two! As much as Harry Potter does get right, the romance is on the, uh, bad side. Oh well, at least mostly everyone who read or watched it really cared about who ended up with who anyway.
As far as I read, Ron and Hermione ended up together simply because that's how Rowling envisioned from the beginning, a la Hagrid carrying Harry after Voldy's attack in the Battle of Hogwarts.
12 The Name Of Albus Severus Potter
While Albus Severus Potter doesn't exactly roll off the tongue I have warmed up to it nowadays. Can't say I was a big fan of it back when I first read it but I also loved Lily Luna Potter.
Anyway, little Albus was named after Snape as a way of Harry to show gratitude and forgiveness to him during the Battle of Hogwarts. Of course, mostly everything Snape did was because of Lily so I don't know how much weight that can hold...
11 The New Faces Of The Three Brothers
This is one of my favorite things about Harry Potter. The Tale of the Three Brothers is one of the most memorable of the series and it taking place in Luna Lovegood's house of all places just tickles my funny bone.
As it goes it's said that Harry is the one who "greets Death like an old friend," Snape perishes mourning a lost love, and Voldy goes straight for power like with the Elder Wand. Not the Hallows themselves, but the ideas behind the brothers.
10 Soulmated Parents
Move over Snape, the true soulmates are here to take center stage! The Patronus Charm is honestly my favorite charm and all the moments it has are just so awesome. Against Umbridge, the Dementors, the doe leading Harry... more, please!
The stag and doe are a perfect fit and they represent James and Lily's souls.
I don't know if Ginny's Patronus has ever been mentioned, but I wouldn't knowing and seeing if it lined up with Harry's own stag Patronus.
9 10 Years Later...
Here's a doozy for ya. James and Lily Potter passed on October 31st, 1981. This was also the first defeat of the Dark Lord by baby Harry as well. 10 years later on October 31st, 1991 the trio defeated the troll in the bathroom.
This was the day that the three became "fire-forged friends."
Man, when Rowling writes a book she writes a book. I can't enough of stuff like this. I bet there are a ton more examples if one wishes to look hard enough.
8 The Tricker Sons
Outside of Luna, these two are for sure my favorite characters in Harry Potter. You could honestly not go wrong when these two were mentioned. Whether funny or serious (mostly funny) I always enjoyed them from top to bottom.
Fun fact! The only times they were apart was when Fred perished and George's head got a nice hole where his ear used to be. Well, that wasn't very fun in retrospect, I gotta say. At least George got a happy ending.
7 Chocolate Frogs For Everyone!
I could go for some chocolate right now honestly. The way they're in Harry Potter is the best too! You get a delicious treat and nice little playing card with information on the most influential people on them!
Harry, Ron, and Hermione all got their own Chocolate Frog card after the Battle of Hogwarts, so I'm sure Ron considered his life's dream completed at that point. I know I would. I wonder if the cards themselves were produced in the real world too?
6 Harry And Dudley Diddy-kins
Amazing nickname aside, Dudley is definitely one of the more underrated characters I think. While he was a spoiled brat growing up he was majorly changing around the time the events of the Half-Blood Prince began.
Harry and Dudley's kids would see each other after the Battle of Hogwarts but sit in silence.
While I doubt that's the happy ending anyone hoped for, I think it still shows how their relationship grew over the many years that they lived together.
